I am in doubt how did that man was able to pass through the security post at the gates with his swords, and given the freedom to carry on his journey on the train with other commuters around? He should have been stopped, disarmed and led away from the station.
If that guy were to go on a rampage & start slashing everyone around him, the consequence will be unimaginable. In a crowded MRT train there would be a massacre; many innocent civilians will be affected.
I feel that the current security guards on duty at stations are not really effective. They are unarmed; unable to react to situations when weapons are involved. They are highly dependent on the officers from Transcom officers. With the time gap in between, the station could have been attacked.
Hence, the current transport network security has to be improved. A suggestion would be having an auxiliary police on duty instead of the normal security guards at every MRT station. This is because auxiliary police officers are well equipped with weapons to protect the public and well trained to manage situations. This serves as a first-line of response and gives you the assurance that the situation is receiving prompt attention while the Authorities are being alerted.
In conclusion, I hope that Singapore’s transport network is better protected from danger and threats, setting the standard for security excellence.
